One: I Love Paris

The Paris Olympics are coming to a close this weekend. Emily in Paris season four, part one, starts streaming on August 15th.

I’ve watched all three seasons of Emily in Paris more than once and several Olympic events in Paris. Watching things in Paris reminds me why I love to visit this fashionable city. This week, my newsletter includes a few French-themed links.

Two: What to Watch

The closing ceremony of the Olympics is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. CEST (3 p.m. EDT) on Sunday at Stade de France just north of Paris. It’s expected to last until 11:15 p.m. CEST (5:15 p.m. EDT). On NBC and Peacock.

In Better Off Dead, a 1985 comedy, one of the characters makes a “French-themed dinner” with items she thinks are French.

This was a funny scene, but I think of baguettes and croissants when I think of French food.

In Massachusetts:

Shop tax free:

Aug. 10 and 11 mark the state’s annual sales tax holiday, meaning shoppers can save 6.25% on items up to $2,500. But not everything is eligible for the deal. Clothing items under $175 are exempt from the sales tax 363 days of the year. But this weekend, if you buy an item that’s less than or equal to $2,500, you don’t have to pay sales tax. If the item is over $2,500, the first $175 is not subject to tax, but the rest is.
