One: The Age Gap Trope on Screen (OSF seeks YSM)

I’ve created this newsletter to report on current trends in fashion and the screen. A recent trend on screens is the older woman dating a younger man. It’s not a new trend, but it is a popular one.

From SheKnows: 23 Movies That Show Women Having Relationships With Younger Men

From Varsity: Why are so many older women dating younger men in recent romcoms?

The older man/woman dating a younger woman/man trope can come off as romantic or creepy. There are always obstacles and judgment from other characters. Can their love survive?

When these types of relationships appear on screen, the world judges the older women more than the older men. Nicole Kidman, “It’s always been because [of] the nature of the world and the history of the way it’s been; it’s always been older men and younger women, and everyone’s like, ‘Oh my gosh,’” she said on the red carpet. “And I think needs to be kind of demystified.” “Having a female write this, and now having more stories and all the work we’ve done for a decade just to get all the different stories out there, be they comedies, be they dramas…just with that perspective of women, without the judgment behind it,” she concluded.

Here are some older women dating younger men movies to explore that aren’t too creepy (creepy = affair with a student or character under 20):
