Oscars: Best Dressed

I love the awards season and I am a little sad to see it come to an end but it did end on a high note with the academy award show last night. Most of the looks I saw were very glamorous. I’m not sure if I can pick a favorite so I will write about my top choices. First of all, the women from The Help looked fantastic! Jessica Chastain wore an Alexander McQueen black and gold dress with a beautiful hairstyle. Viola Davis looked beautiful in a green Vera Wang dress with a simple yet elegant hairstyle. I also loved Emma Stone’s Giambattista Valli Couture red dress with the bow. Yes, it did look a lot like the dress worn by Nicole Kidman  in 2007 but who cares?! I think she looked great and I loved her presentation with Ben Stiller. Octavia Spencer also looked very glamorous in her Tadashi Shoji sparkler. How awesome was it that she won the Oscar? I got a little teary eyed at that moment. A very good-looking group.

Speaking of good-looking groups the women from Bridesmaids also looked great. Rose Byrne looked stunning in a Vivienne Westwood low back sparkler. Maya Rudolph wore a Johanna Johnson with nice details around the waist and on the shoulders. Maya was supporting the side swept hairdo worn by many attendees. I’m not sure if I like that hairdo. Melissa McCarthy looked nice in her Kevin Hall dress that also had sparkly details placed appropriately on the dress. I also liked Kristen Wiig’s dress by J. Mendel but I kind of wish she did something different with her hair.

The older crowd also looked their best in my opinion compared to their dresses for the other awards shows. Glenn Close looked nice in her Zac Posen dress/jacket combo. I liked Meryl Streep’s Lanvin dress, she did looked great and her acceptable speech was very appropriate. That was a tough award to hand out in my opinion. I thought all of those actresses had award-winning performances. (I didn’t see Iron Lady but I’m sure Meryl’s performance was award-winning)

Other fab looks: Cameron Diaz in Gucci Premiere, Sandra Bullock in a low back black and white Marchesa, Natalie Portman in vintage Dior red with polka dots, Milla Jovovich looked stunning in Elie Saab Couture. I enjoyed watching Nina Garcia (who looked great in Black Halo) and Tim Gunn interview people on the red carpet. My favorite quote from Nina Garcia is about Rooney Mara wearing Givenchy Couture, “She is Audrey Hepburn gone punk”. I think that is true. Rooney definitely has her own style and yet still looks classy. Angelina Jolie looked nice until she stuck her skinny leg out, what was up with that?

I am going to finish with my top three looks of the night:

  1. Gwyenth Paltrow in Tom Ford. I LOVED her dress/cape combo. Classy and edgy. The dress also looked great without the cape when she was presenting.
  2. Tina Fey in Carolina Herrera. I LOVED her overall look, especially her up do
  3. Michelle Williams wearing a coral Louis Vuitton dress holding a pink clutch. (Both Tina and Michelle’s dress had a popular spring trend I am on the fence about-the peplum but I think they both pulled it off with their looks)

There were plenty of other nice looks but the above were the ones I wanted to write about. Check out the New York Times article Tradition Reigns on the Red Carpet By Eric Wilson to see all of the looks mentioned plus more.
