Last night was the MET Gala event that celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit. It is a red carpet event that many celebrities attend, dressed to impressed. This year the theme of the event was PUNK: Chaos to Couture. In my opinion this is a tough theme to dress for, especially since this event is formal. How do you dress punk for a gala? The celebrities who attended did their best to tackle that challenge. Some dresses were more on the formal side with an edge but some people completely embraced the theme. Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Miley Cyrus had old school punk parts to their outfits. Anna Hathaway, Rooney Mara, Beyonce, Jessica Biel, Gwen Stifani, Carey Mulligan, and Emma Watson were just a few of attendants who wore what I would call glam punk. There were some beautiful dresses by the big designers and some really long trains (check out Katie Holmes dress for an example). Here is a link to a slide show of all of the looks: MET Gala photos
So this punk themed MET event inspired today’s blog. What is punk? Punk is more of a style then a trend but you can add some punk inspired pieces to your wardrobe. Think of Lizbeth Sanders from Girl with the dragoon tattoo and rock stars from the 80s like Debbie Harry and Pat Benatar.
