When: Saturday January 25, 2014
Where: Nantucket, MA http://www.nantucketchamber.org/
I traveled to Nantucket to celebrate my friend Marianne’s birthday. We decided to celebrate with a low key weekend on Nantucket with our friend Lisa. I’ve mentioned Lisa before because she owns a fabulous clothing store on Nantucket called Nalu. Lisa lives on the island and I always enjoy our visits even on this cold January weekend. Marianne and I travelled to the island on Friday via the Hyline fast ferry. On Friday night Lisa cooked us a nice dinner of chicken cutlets with an arugula salad. We had cake for dessert to celebrate.
Saturday began with coffee and biscotti I brought from the North End. After breakfast we ventured into town so that Lisa could open her store. Marianne and I explored town and had lunch at Centre Street Café. I had a delicious squash soup and chicken quesadilla. After lunch we did some more exploring, shopped at a quaint bookstore, and ended up at the library. We read our books and may or may not have nodded off while reading.
Later in the afternoon we returned to Lisa’s store to do some shopping. I bought a cute summer dress and dreamed of days when I could wear it with a denim jacket and some cute sandals. I also bought a rope bracelet with a gold Nantucket charm made by a local jewelry designer. Marianne bought a stylish blue bubble necklace.
On our way back to the house we purchased some Salmon for dinner. Once again Lisa cooked us an excellent dinner of Salmon, risotto, and spinach.
We made it back to Boston Sunday evening after another decent fast ferry ride. I’ve been stranded on island due to bad weather when the ferries can’t operate. Nantucket is not a bad place to be stranded but I would eventually have to return to work. I’ve never been delayed more than one day. Sometimes you can take a plane back to Hyannis when the ferries aren’t running. Keep in mind you might end up sitting next to the pilot on one of these planes.
My Nantucket trip was the perfect way to celebrate my friend’s birthday. Lisa and Marianne are the kind of friends who are always fun to be around. We laughed, told stories, and reminisced about our previous adventures. I recommend taking time like this with your close friends. Travel for a weekend or even just overnight.
