As I put together my New York fashion week post I continue to see this trend of wearing your coat on your shoulders without putting your arms into the coat.
With the cold and snowy weather in Boston, I can’t imagine trying this trend. I need my arms to be warm right now! Basically with this trend your coat acts like a cape. Not practical for walking around the city at a fast pace but this look would work if you had an event (like fashion week) to attend.
This trend has been around for a long time. Read the Buzz Feed article from 2013 fashion week coverage:
This article touches on reasons why this trend is popular: homage to the 50s sweater on the shoulders? too many bracelets getting stuck in your sleeves? This look reminds of when a gentleman would lend you his coat when you are cold, so for me it is a romantic look. We might never know why this trend started but I like a lot of the outfits with this trend. No need to buy new clothes to try this trend, just put one of your coats on your shoulders and head out the door.
Harper’s Bazaar had some great street style pictures from London fashion week. Here are some attendees wearing their coats on their shoulders.

These outfits are adorable and these models are gorgeous. I love the trendy women’s clothing in these photos. I especially loved the baby blue coat at the bottom.
