The above-stacked lists, unfortunately, missed a few great performances, The Worst 2022 Emmy Award Snubs: From Britt Lower to Tracee Ellis Ross.

From Vogue, The Biggest Surprises (and Snubs) from the 2022 Emmy Nominations, the top five most nominated shows were:

  1. Succession with 25 nominations
  2. Ted Lasso, with 20 nominations
  3. White Lotus with 20 nominations
  4. Hacks with 17 nominations
  5. Only Murders in the Building with 17 nominations

My breakdown of the top five shows:

Succession (on HBOmax) – I only watched a couple of episodes of season 1. I didn’t care for the characters; some nasty people were in the show. However, friends and family members love this show, so I might have to give it another watch before September.

The fashion on Succession: Succession Has Mastered the Art of Quiet Luxury. There is an Instagram page dedicated to the looks on the show, https://www.instagram.com/successionfashion/?hl=en

The White Lotus (On HBOmax) – This is another show with some unpleasant characters. Both Succession and White Lotus show a nasty side to the wealthy crowd. I stuck with White Lotus for the whole season because it was a limited series. However, it was an interesting watch, and Jennifer Coolidge gave an outstanding performance and had a well-earned Emmy nomination.

Some critics think too many people from this show earned nominations; for example, one category is stacked with White Lotus actresses.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie

Connie Britton, The White Lotus
Jennifer Coolidge, The White Lotus
Alexandra Daddario, The White Lotus
Natasha Rothwell, The White Lotus
Sydney Sweeney, The White Lotus
Mare Winningham, Dopesick

The White Lotus (and Hacks) featured fun resort wear; read about some trends in my post: Coastal Chic a.k.a Resort Wear

My favorite shows from the top five list include Ted Lasso, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, and The Morning Show.

Hacks (on HBOmax) – Two seasons are available to stream. “A dark mentorship forms between Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas comic, and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old comedy writer.”

Can We Please Talk About The Fashion In HBO’s ‘Hacks?’- It’s so good.

Only Murders in the Building (on Hulu) – Season 3 started airing on June 28th. One episode is released every week. “Three strangers share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one. When a grisly death occurs inside their exclusive Upper West Side apartment building, the trio suspects murder and employs their precise knowledge of true crime to investigate the truth.” The interaction between the three main characters is fun to watch. A gen Z working with men from an older generation provides a lot of entertainment. Steve Martin and Martin Short can still perform physical comedy with laugh-out-loud moments. There are also great cameos in this series.

The Morning Show (on Apple TV+) – “An unapologetically candid drama that looks at the modern workplace through the lens of the people who help wake America up, pulling back the curtain on early morning TV.” The first two seasons are available on Apple TV+. Reeses Witherspoon and Billy Crudup are 2 Emmy nominees, but I thought the whole cast had some heartfelt performances.

Ted Lasso (on Apple TV+) – 2 seasons are available. “An American football coach is hired to manage a British soccer team; what he lacks in knowledge, he makes up for in optimism, determination, and biscuits.” This show is a quotable, feel-good comedy with a bit of drama.

Honorable mention that not is the top five list:

Abbott Elementary (on Hulu or ABC.com) received seven nominations but is one of my favorite shows that aired in 2021 and 2022; it is a comedy that occasionally pulls on the heartstrings. From Wikipedia, “Abbott Elementary is an American mockumentary sitcom television series created by Quinta Brunson for ABC. It stars Brunson as a second grade teacher at Abbott Elementary, a fictional Black school in Philadelphia. The ensemble cast includes Tyler James WilliamsJanelle JamesLisa Ann WalterChris Perfetti, and Sheryl Lee Ralph. The series premiered as a midseason entry in the 2021–22 television season on December 7, 2021 and was met with critical acclaim. In March 2022, the series was renewed for a second season, which is set to premiere on September 21, 2022. The show was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, with Quinta BrunsonJanelle JamesSheryl Lee Ralph, and Tyler James Williams all receiving nominations for their performances.”
