“So I’m just gon’ sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Watchin’ the tide roll away, ooh
I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay, wastin’ time” Otis Redding
One: Sitting on the dock of the bay

When the summer temperatures rise to record-setting numbers, I’d like to chill by the water if I’m not chilling in the AC. There are many options when picking your water spot: local pools, beaches, lakes, rivers, and ponds.

Two: What to watch
Netflix:
Uncoupled – (series) From Netfilx,”Stunned when his longtime boyfriend moves out, a New York City real estate broker faces the prospect of starting over — and dating again — in his 40s.” Starring Neil Patrick Harris

The Most Hated Man on the Internet – (documentary, 3 episodes) From BGR, “In keeping with the jam-packed release so far this year of one buzzy documentary title after another, the new docuseries The Most Hated Man on the Internet will almost assuredly have everyone talking. In short, this 3-episode limited series tells the story of one mother who decided to go after the so-called ‘King of Revenge Porn’, after nude photos of her daughter surfaced online.” You will hate this man after watching the series.
Prime Video:
Paper Girls – (series) From New York Magazine, “This series about a group of newspaper-delivery girls who get sucked into a late-’80s war between time travelers has a bit of a Stranger Things feel with Yellowjackets vibes, but what it resembles most faithfully is the lauded, lovely comic of the same name on which it is based, written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Cliff Chiang, both of whom act as executive producers. —J.C.

Paper Girls review – a hugely fun sci-fi caper that’s like an all-female Stranger Things
Disney+:
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series – July 27
HBOmax:
Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin – (series starting July 28): “Five years after the original series, Original Sin delivers a recognizable setup: A group of teenagers starts receiving threatening text messages from someone named “A,” who is going after the girls for something their parents did 20 years ago. But this version swaps out intrigue for horror with “final girl” episode titles referring to the scream queens of Carrie, Halloween, and … Scream.” —R.H. From New York Magazine
Peacock:
The Resort – (series) From New York Magazine, “It’s not The White Lotus, but if you’re in the mood for a mystery at a lovely vacation spot, this might scratch that itch. William Jackson Harper and Cristin Milioti play a couple attempting to relax together who instead get wrapped up in a missing-person case. Honestly, based on the odd things that happened in Milioti’s relationships in Palm Springs and Made for Love, we really should have seen this coming.” —Jen Chaney

Hulu:
The Americans, complete series (FX)
Not Okay – (movie) From Vulture, “If you’ve been scrolling TikTok in the past few months, you’ve probably already heard of the film Not Okay (a.k.a. the movie with Dylan O’Brien sporting bleach-blond hair). Directed by Quinn Shephard, the film follows “unlikable female protagonist” and wannabe influencer Danni Sanders (Zoey Deutch) as she fakes a trip to Paris and claims she witnessed a terrible incident in an attempt to gain fame. And let’s just say that’s not okay.“
Apple TV+
Surface – (series) “Is it time to be worried about Gugu Mbatha-Raw? After The Morning Show (on which her character was sexually assaulted) and The Girl Before (on which her character was gaslit), Mbatha-Raw stars in and produces this series, in which her character, Sophie, wakes up with a head injury and some scary questions. Sophie survives a suicide attempt but experiences amnesia and must work through who she can trust. If this sparks memories of Christopher Nolan’s Memento, that’s not a bad thing.” —Roxana Hadadi
Amber Brown – (series) Based on a set of children’s books by Paula Danziger. From IMDb, “A girl finds her way through art and music after her parent’s divorce.”
Paramount+:
Honor Society – (movie), from IMDb, “Honor’s sole focus is getting into Harvard. Willing to do whatever it takes, Honor concocts a plan to take down her top three competitors, until things take a turn when she unexpectedly falls for her biggest competition.”
In Theaters:
DC League of Super-Pets – (Animation). From IMDb, “Krypto the Super-Dog and Superman are inseparable best friends, sharing the same superpowers and fighting crime side by side in Metropolis. However, Krypto must master his own powers for a rescue mission when Superman is kidnapped.”

Vengeance – (comedy, mystery, thriller) Starring B.J.Novak. From IMDb, “A radio host from New York City attempts to solve the murder of a girl he hooked up with and travels down south to investigate the circumstances of her death and discover what happened to her.“
Thirteen Lives – (biography, drama, thriller): From IMDb, “A rescue mission is assembled in Thailand where a group of young boys and their soccer coach are trapped in a system of underground caves that are flooding.“
Resurrection – (crime, drama, horror): From IMDb, “Margaret’s life is in order. She is capable, disciplined, and successful. Everything is under control. That is, until David returns, carrying with him the horrors of Margaret’s past.”

Five: What to do
Visit an aquarium:
I love an aquarium visit. Something is calming about watching the fish and sea creatures swim around. Some aquariums have touch tanks to have a hands-on experience with sea life. Most aquariums are dark and have AC so that you can be nice and cool during your visit.

Aquariums also do work to help the environment. For example, the New England Aquarium’s mission statement, “The New England Aquarium is a catalyst for global change through public engagement, commitment to marine animal conservation, leadership in education, innovative scientific research, and effective advocacy for vital and vibrant oceans.”
In Massachusetts, visit the The New England Aquarium located outside the North End neighborhood. https://www.neaq.org/
