What a documentary is very special at doing very well is depicting somebody experiencing something, so that the viewer experiences that as well.” – Albert Maysles

One: Documentaries

As an avid book reader, television show binger, and movie viewer, I love stories that entertain and educate me. Documentaries provide entertainment and history lessons and let people tell their stories.

I’m fascinated by the creators of these films and series. Some creators take risks when filming extreme sporting events, and some take risks talking about popular famous people.

The number of documentary films and series available to watch is too high to share them all, but in my recent blog post, I’ve shared the top reasons why I watch documentaries with a few suggestions on what to watch: https://lifestyleofafashionista.com/2022/08/12/documentaries/

Two: What to watch

The Sandman – (series, based on a comic book) “After years of imprisonment, Morpheus — the King of Dreams — embarks on a journey across worlds to find what was stolen from him and restore his power.”

Three: What to wear

Visors

Love them or hate them, visors provide excellent sun protection. For women, there are sporty options and more “fashionable” options. For men, most options would be considered sporty.

How to Wear a Visor, https://soxy.com/blogs/how-to-wear-a-visor/. “To wear a visor, you must be fearless. Like a pair of Crocs, this particular hat is known to be quite controversial. It’s the type of accessory that divides people since its capless design and exaggerated brim are usually perceived as either stylish or ugly by some trendsetters.

Women:

12 Visors for Women That Offer Stylish and Effective Sun Protection, https://www.prevention.com/beauty/style/g40744922/best-visors-for-women/, These stylish hat alternatives are a great way to keep yourself protected while out in the sun. “A good visor can protect your skin and eyes from damaging UVA/B rays from the sun,” Dr. Amin explains, and while you might be thinking that sun hats pose a better sun protection option, he disagrees. “The visor has the advantage over hats because you can stay cool and protected at the same time, [and they also accommodate] long hair and ponytails. Not to mention [there are] lots of great stylish options available.”

A sporty option that keeps you cool, MISSION Cooling Stretchy Visor- Lightweight, No Slip Band, UPF 50, $14.48 on Amazon

Men:

When I think of visors for men, I think of Ted Lasso and pro-golfers. Some might consider visors on men a “dad” fashion item.

The Best Men’s Visors, https://www.lifesavvy.com/reviews/the-best-mens-visors/, “A men’s visor is a great way to keep the sun out of your eyes while keeping cool.”

Best Men’s Visors, “Are you looking for the men’s visors from different brands on the market, such as adidas, Champion, Under Armour, MISSION, Nike, but don’t know where to start? We have done a lot of research to find the top 19 Best Men’s Visors available.

Adidas Men’s Superlite 2 Performance Visor, $14.97 on Amazon

It’s harder to find “fashionable” visor styles for men. Most men wear visors for function, not fashion. If you want to choose a more stylish type, you can try a designer brand, but it will cost you.

Four: What to Try

A French Aperitif:

I’m a fan of drinking a refreshing aperitif before dinner. So what is it? “an alcoholic drink taken before a meal to stimulate the appetite.” My favorite Italian pre-dinner beverage in the winter is the Negroni, which includes Campari. In the summer, I enjoy an Aperol Spritz.

Now that summer is officially here, my favorite aperitif to drink has got to be an Aperol Spritz,” says Manuel Gonzalez, beverage manager at the AC Hotel Sawgrass Mills. “The smell of zesty orange complementing complex herbal scents makes for smooth sipping all summer long.”
Aperol is indeed a classic aperitif to use in this Spritz, which is popular both in its home country of Italy and all around the US. Just combine Aperol with prosecco, add a splash of soda, and garnish with a slice of orange.
From Liquor.com, The 11 Best Aperitifs to Drink in 2022

Thanks to Buzzfeed and TikTok, I’ve recently discovered this French aperitif made with Lillet.

After Trying This “Summer In A Glass” Two-Ingredient Cocktail, I Just Want To Thank The People Of France (And This TikToker) For Their Exquisite Taste

It’s super popular over in France, though it’s become quite buzzy here in the States thanks to the Lillet spritz and the James Bond–adjacent Vesper martini. For TikToker Claire Dinhut (aka @clairefromwhere) and her family, it’s also their “aperitif of choice” to sip during hot French summers.

Claire Dinhut / Via tiktok.com (full video,  viral TikTok)

As for why the orange works so nicely, flavor-wise? As Claire explained, Lillet is actually made with orange cordials, so as the frozen orange thaws, it continues to release all that zesty, orangey goodness into your drink. “You’re keeping it in the family,” Claire explained. “You’re just amplifying the flavor that’s already there.”

The verdict, I love it!

If you would prefer more of a mixed drink aperitif, try the Lillet Spritz. From Liquor.com, “People have been enjoying Lillet Blanc since 1872 when this Bordeaux aperitif made from grapes and orange peels was created. The Blanc in particular, but also the Rouge and Rose, are crisp and refreshing when served chilled or over some ice. But Lillet & Tonic is a bright, vibrant cocktail to enjoy in the early evening.

Katy Perry has launched her non-alcoholic own collection, De Soi. “De Soi is a range of non-alcoholic apéritifs made with natural adaptogens founded by Katy Perry and Morgan McLachlan.”

Five: What to do

Visit a Science Museum:

https://www.mos.org/exhibits/new-england-climate-stories

I love science museums. Maybe it’s because I taught middle school science for over ten years, but I think I’ve always been fascinated with science. In science classes, you study dinosaurs, space, the human body, the Earth, and other living creatures. If you don’t remember what you learned in school, a science museum is a great place to refresh your memory or learn new information. In addition, most science museums have interactive areas for kids of all ages to immerse themselves in the learning process.

Science museums also have planetariums and an IMAX theater. Most museums have temporary traveling exhibits to check out and explore. The Museum of Science in Boston has one coming up that I want to check out. Mental Health: Mind Matters, Temporary Exhibit Opens August 27.

Good mental health is an important aspect of everyone’s life. Like physical illness, mental illness is not a ‘choice’ or a personal flaw but a medical condition that requires care. Yet misunderstanding often leads to lack of treatment and needless suffering, making it a personal, social, and economic issue. Mental Health: Mind Matters, the Museum’s newest special exhibition, provides a safe space for important conversations about mental illnesses through four key themes.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science currently has the Body Worlds exhibition. BODY WORLDS & The Cycle of Life
