Series:

Painkiller (drama series), A fictionalized retelling of events, Painkiller is a scripted limited series that explores some of the origins and aftermath of the opioid crisis in America, highlighting the stories of the perpetrators, victims, and truth-seekers whose lives are forever altered by the invention of OxyContin. An examination of crime, accountability, and the systems that have repeatedly failed hundreds of thousands of Americans, Painkiller is based on the book Pain Killer by Barry Meier and The New Yorker magazine article “The Family That Built the Empire of Pain” by Patrick Radden Keefe. 

Down for Love (reality dating), A heartwarming quest for love, this feel-good reality show follows several people with Down syndrome as they navigate the trials and triumphs of dating.

Documentary:

Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop (4-part series), This timely limited doc series recontextualizes the role the irrepressible women of hip-hop have played throughout the revolutionary genre’s 50 years by reinserting them into the canon where they belong: at the center, from day one to present day. 

Untold: Johnny Football (series, episodes released weekly), This documentary traces the meteoric rise and precipitous fall of football star Johnny Manziel via interviews with friends, coaches and Manziel himself.

Max (HBO):

Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty (season two), A dramatic look at the glitz and glamour of 1980s Los Angeles and the rise of the NBA’s Lakers, Dr. Jerry Buss and Magic Johnson.

Hard Knocks: Training Camp With the New York Jets (documentary, 18th edition), embedding camera crews at the Jets’ training camp in Florham Park, N.J. to chronicle third-year head coach Robert Saleh preparing his team of young emerging stars and prominent veterans — most notably, four-time NFL MVP, Aaron Rodgers, Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, and defensive All-Pros C.J. Mosley and Quinnen Williams — for the upcoming NFL season.

From the Washington Post, How to help Hawaii residents displaced by Maui wildfires. The Office of the Governor of Hawaii has directed donors to the Hawaii Community Foundation. The Maui Food Bank is providing meals for thousands of displaced residents.
