One: Books to Series (and movies)

Red, White, and Royal Blue

I enjoy watching movies and series that were adapted from a book. Even when the film is not as good as the book. (Unpopular opinion – the Silver Linings Playbook book was better than the movie) I enjoyed Book adaptions, including The Harry Potter Series, The Hunger Games series, The Girl With the Dragon TattooGone Girl, and The Last Thing He Told Me. After watching the movies, I’ve enjoyed reading a few books, including Gone Baby Gone and Red Dragon.

The Upshaws: Part 4 – Netflix Series, A working-class Black family in Indiana strives for a better life and a happy home while juggling everyday struggles in this comedy series.

American Masters: Sidney Poitier: One Bright Light (2000 documentary), A writer and director, a thinker and critic, a humanitarian and diplomat, his presence as a cultural icon has long been one of protest and humanity. 

MarkKim + Chef (Max original, 10-part series), follows soon-to-be married Thai television stars Kimberley Anne Woltemas and Mark Prin Suparat, neither of whom has much experience in the kitchen, as they learn to cook under the guidance of professional chefs. 

Time of Essence (documentary series), The five-part, one-hour series is a celebration of the trailblazing magazine that reaches a global community of over 20 million Black women and has revealed some of the most captivating and influential covers of the past half-century.

LEGO Disney Princess: The Castle Quest (series premiere), Tiana, Moana, Snow White, Rapunzel and Ariel are off on an adventure when they are transported to a castle; they discover Gaston hatched an evil plan to take over their kingdoms; the princesses must work together to save their kingdoms.

Back on the Strip (Comedy), After losing the woman of his dreams, Merlin moves to Las Vegas to pursue work as a magician, only to get hired as the frontman in a revival of the notorious Black male stripper crew, the Chocolate Chips. Led by Luther — now broke and broken — the old, domesticated, out-of-shape Chips put aside former conflicts and reunite to save the hotel they used to perform in while helping Merlin win back his girl.
