Five on Friday

April 12, 2024

I often hear someone say, ‘I’m not a real runner.’ We are all runners, some just run faster than others. I never met a fake runner.” —Bart Yasso (Bart Yasso, the “mayor of running”, is Runner’s World’s Chief Running Officer.)

One: Marathon Monday

I am a runner. I chose the quote this week because sometimes I question my dedication to running. But you can’t be a fake runner, no matter your pace or weekly logged miles.

From Boston.com, What you need to know about the 2024 Boston Marathon

The 128th Boston Marathon will be run on Monday, April 15. Around 20,000 runners will be running. In honor of the men and women who are running on Monday, this week’s topic is marathons: running a marathon, cheering on a marathon, or becoming a volunteer. (I’ve done all three things)

While you’re celebrating, don’t forget to spread the love. One Boston Day is held on April 15 (Marathon Monday proper) to remember the way the city and world rallied together after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The goal is to spread kindness among your fellow Bostonians, and in that spirit, the city is promoting several volunteer events like local park cleanups and make your own marathon sign parties. If you can’t make those, you can still celebrate using this official One Boston acts of kindness checklist. Bside
