Summer days are sailing away, and the school year has officially started for most of the United States. I’ve seen many back-to-school photos on my social media feeds, and I enjoy seeing all the back-to-school outfits. Seeing these outfits has inspired me to write about how to prepare your closet for back-to-school days.
If you rotate clothes in your closet a few times a year, this is an excellent weekend to move some things around, even if you aren’t preparing to return to school.
In the northeast, this time of year teases us with cooler fall days mixed in with warmer weather. Organizing your closet for both types of weather can be challenging, but these steps might help.
Step 1: Put away beach/pool clothes, shoes, and accessories
If you plan to take a beach trip in the fall or winter, store these items together in an easy-to-access location.
Items to put away include: bathing suits, cover-ups, sandals, beach hats.
Step 2: Pull out fall transition pieces or shop for fall pieces to add to your collection.
Organize your closet and place fall pieces in a prominent spot.

Sweaters: switch to sweaters with a heavier weight.

“Whether I’m on a plane or cuddling on the couch with my dog, I plan on leaning into peak cozy vibes this fall. Normally, I’d throw on leggings and a hoodie and call it a day, but when I laid eyes on Pact’s über-chic Airplane collection, it was game over. The geometric color block is a major style upgrade from my sweats, and the fact that it’s sustainably made is something I can feel good about.” —Karina Hoshikawa, Senior Writer, Affiliate Refinery 29
